Peer support
Veteran Volunteer Initiative
Peer-led support from retired veteran representatives who have worked inside the process and can explain what it actually asks for.
Overview
The medical opinion process can feel opaque from the outside. Our volunteers are retired veteran representatives who share what they know, in plain language, without taking over the case.
This is knowledge sharing, not representation. Volunteers do not provide legal advice and do not act as your accredited representative.
How it works
- Peer-led conversations with retired veteran representatives
- Plain language explanation of how evidence gets evaluated
- Help identifying missing records and obvious documentation gaps
- Guidance on organizing records into a usable packet
- Clarification of what a medical opinion can and cannot address
- Expectations for timelines, scope, and record quality
- Help preparing questions for your clinician or case team
- Support understanding conflicting notes across records
- Coaching on clear communication and documentation hygiene
- Boundaries that keep support neutral and nonlegal
- Optional continuity support across multiple steps
- Simple request process with documented next actions
Volunteer scope and boundaries
The Veteran Volunteer Initiative exists to share knowledge. Volunteers stay neutral, stay non-legal, and hand off to an accredited representative when a case needs one.
